In addition to there being more resources to enable OB/GYNs to specialize in reproductive technologies, the Center for Reproductive Science, Health and Education calls for a rethinking of the workforce itself, including the need for more doulas in order to improve reproductive and maternal and child health outcomes in the United States.UCLA CRSHE's Director Dr. Amander Clark alongside Savannah Sellers and Tammy Sun, Founder and CEO of Carrot Fertility, at this Summer's 2024 Aspen Ideas: Health Event (Panel on the Future of Fertility).Curious to learn more? 🔬 From the insightful words of our Medical Director, Dr. Norbert Gleicher: 'Society cannot be surprised by the desire of women to extend their reproductive period into what currently is menopause. Society, science, and medicine, therefore, have an obligation to accommodate.' This powerful statement opens up a critical conversation on women's reproductive health and the evolving role of medical science. 🌐 Dive deeper into Dr. Gleicher's thought-provoking perspective in the December edition of The Voice. Access to medicines | Strategy | Partnerships to solve inequities

It was a pleasure to attend this terrific event - kudos to the Linksbridge and BMGF teams - Gaurvika Nayyar MPH MBA, Marina Theopold (Krommenacker), Lena Stashko, Dena Seabrook for curating a thought-provoking three days. My personal highlights below. I might have failed at being succinct despite my efforts:📢 Regional manufacturing of vaccines and more is the rage. It is also full of trade-offs and some cognitive dissonance. What will the impact of more regional manufacturers have on global market dynamics? What might be some new ‘demand underwriting tools’ that can bring more certainty to unknown markets? Thank you to Harsh Mehta, Aayush Solanki Hassan Belkhayat Prashant Yadav📢 With an increasing focus on localization, country-level decision-making and prioritization becomes ever more important. How can domestic health financing better support market shaping interventions? Excited to see how Bhavya G. and her team at Results for Development explore this. Kudos to other champions who spoke on the need to base decisions in locally driven priority-setting processes Ioana Ursu Greg Widmyer 📢 What happens when TAM takes SAM out on a date? They discover SOM! Getting lost? Understanding serviceable obtainable market (SOM) is becoming ever more important in a world of increasing product choice and fiscal pressures. It was re-affirming to see this theme reiterated throughout the event - check out suggested definitions and more in our Discerning demand publication.📢The non-donor funded commodities need attention. Country-based market shaping (or pharmaceutical and procurement policy?) efforts such as those in Ethiopia may serve as good examples but we need more collective action for ensuring the availability of affordable, high-quality, mostly generic products. Thank you Solomon Nigussie for sharing Ethiopia’s success story.📢 We need to engage distributors in these conversations. The lack of their absence was striking and we can do better on this next time. Kudos to my colleagues at Market Access Africa for highlighting creative ideas on how we can work more with private distributors to achieve access goals. Excited to dig deeper into this! Finally - We need to invest in capturing case studies of what’s worked and also what hasn’t worked in global health market shaping. We need safe spaces for honest conversations. I’m excited about the idea of a global health market dynamics curriculum and thank Anne Liu and Samson Jarso for recent collaborations on this concept. Loved re-connecting with old friends and colleagues I’ve come across throughout my career: Andre Daniel Morais (LSE alumna ‘08!), David Ripin, Hema Srinivasan, Marie Chantale J. Lepine, Michael Anderson CB, learning about new business models for reaching women in low-income communities (Joanna Bichsel), exploring the potential for market shaping on drones (Olivier Defawe Ph.D.)and genome sequencing (Belinda Ngongo). And so many more. It was fun.

Problem-solver or problem-finder👌Rather than joining multitude to complain about gaps in our respective sphere of influence, why not be a solution closing the noticed gap.🧔As a father, you can reduce the rate of gender-based violence by teaching your children by examples. 🤱As a mother, you can reduce mortality rates by practicing exclusively breastfeeding and providing good nutrition. ✍As a researcher, you can improve global health by strengthening evidence-based medicine via publications and collaborations with implementing partners (policy makers).💪It's hightime we diverted our energy to problem-solving rather than problem-finding#gobalhealth#genderbasedviolence#problem-solving

During Black Maternal Health Week, let's be mindful that for pregnant women with Sickle Cell, the maternal mortality rate is 26 times higher than the national average and 10 times higher than black women. There's a disconnect when we can have these much needed conversations about reducing mortality but not include SCD in the conversation. Yet another reason why the work of Sickle Cell Reproductive Health Education Directive is so important. Join us on April 30th as we dive in to understand the inequalities: https://lnkd.in/ei2u3HrW

On this International Women’s Day, we are highlighting Assistant Professor Ipek Ensari, PhD, whose work aims to use mobile health and machine learning methods for complex patient-generated data to improve disease characterization and patient self-management. Her work is grounded in women’s reproductive health conditions and populations at increased risk for health disparities. As she explains: “Utilizing AI in women’s reproductive health research is pivotal, especially for chronic conditions that are not well-documented. Combined with mHealth technology, AI methods enable us to collect, harmonize, and summarize large volumes of data, which improves our understanding of the patient experience.”Watch Dr. Ensari’s discuss her work in this lecture at the Hasso Plattner Institute in Potsdam:

The The National Institutes of Health (NIH) just created a partnership worth celebrating. Researchers from the Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University School of Medicine, and the Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) have been selected to form a Maternal Health Research Center of Excellence. This partnership is one of 10 research centers nationwide chosen for this NIH initiative. In collaboration with community partners, the MSM and Emory team will work to promote maternal health equity and develop and evaluate innovative approaches to reduce pregnancy-related complications and deaths, and will pay particular attention on populations experiencing health disparities. “Pregnant and postpartum women who are Black live at the intersection of three of the gravest public health threats confronting the United States in the 21st century: the maternal morbidity and mortality epidemic, the behavioral health crisis, and intersectional discrimination,” says Hannah L. F. Cooper, ScD.This partnership aims to change that— so all women can have a healthy, more equitable pregnancy and postpartum experience. #MaternalHealth #HealthEquity #PublicHealthLearn more about this partnership: https://lnkd.in/gKVJd3KS
